Summer Champs is history! There were 421 swimmers entered among the 13 teams. Congratulations to Liberty Township / Powell YMCA for winning the overall meet. Liberty Township/Powell YMCA won the Saturday session, while Columbus Hilltop won the Sunday session. The coaches did a great job in preparing their swimmers, with hundreds of seed times bettered during the sessions!
Thank you to all the 100+ volunteers that made Summer Champs a competitive smooth-running event. A special thank you Dave Shull and Doug Gotschall as the meet referees. Two days of heat didn't wear you two down.
The bullpen team from Liberty Township / Powell did a great job on Saturday. The starter never had to wait for swimmers to be at the blocks. That task takes quite a few volunteers and typically goes unnoticed when it goes well. Thank you for keeping Saturday smooth.
There were several volunteers present on both days that helped keep this event on track. Credit goes to Jim DiPietro for keeping the timing console on track.
Thank you to Gahanna, Lancaster and Liberty Township/Powell for the equipment they brought to insure we had backups when needed. While it wasn't apparent in the pool, we had a 20 minute power outage at the timing table during Saturday and still kept the swimmers competing.
While the cost of Summer Champs event entries has gone up, the effort is to make this a break-even event. The higher entry costs, heat sheets and other activities are to try to make the meet break-even. Despite the higher costs for 2006, the meet appears to still be in the red. If you are interested in T-Shirts left from the meet, please contact Kyle Root at Grove City.
