If a swimmer only qualifies in 1 event, can they swim just that event at the AA Champs meet in Athens?
The swimmer qualified to swim the one event at the AA Champs, so they are allowed to swim the event they qualify in at the meet.
My 10 year old swimmer qualified in one event for AA Champs. Can they swim the maximum three events at the AA Champs meet in Athens?
For the AA meet, swimmers must achieve the qualifying time in each individual event. There are no automatic "bonus" entries allowed. The swimmer and coach should decide on the swimmers participation at the meet.
How do the relays work, can only A qualified swimmers can swim in Regional A meet relays, or can anyone?
The relays at the Regional A meet may include swimmers with AA times. Because teams may have age groups with fewer than four A swimmers, the team may need to use AA-time athletes to complete a relay. The team should maximize the A-time swimmers to fill a relay, and use the AA time swimmers only to complete the relay. There need to be at least two A swimmers on any relay at the regional meet. The league is counting on the coaches to manage this situation regarding who comprises the relay.
What differentiates an A swimmer from an AA swimmer for a relay?
The A swimmer is qualified to swim an individual event at the Regional A Champs meet. The AA swimmer has three qualifying times for the AA meet in Athens, and therefore is ineligible to participate in individual events at the Regional A Champs meet.
If an athlete has an AA time in an event do they have to swim at the Regional A meet?
No -- a swimmer with an AA seed time cannot swim that individual event at the Regional A meet.
My athlete has two AA times -- does that limit them to one event at the A meet?
No -- a swimmer with two or fewer AA times can compete in three individual events at the A meet. And then compete in any individual events at the AA champs meet where they achieved AA times.
My child has three AA times, but wants to swim a different individual event at the Regional A meet to try to achieve the AA time. May they?
No -- a swimmer with an three AA seed times cannot swim any individual events at the Regional A meet.
If a swimmer achieves an AA time at a regional meet, can they swim the event at the AA Champs meet?
A swimmer with a AA qualifying time prior to the entry deadline for the AA Champs meet may enter and swim at the AA meet (subject to individual entry limitations). The entry deadline for the AA Champs meet is after the completion of each of the Regional A meets, so any AA qualifying time achieved at the Regional A meets would qualify a swimmer to compete at the meet in Athens.
