Previous Rule Reminders
Rule Reminder for January, 2008 (1/1)
Remember your swimmers must participate in a YMCA meet 40 days prior to Winter Champs to be eligible to complete (January 27, 2008). They must also compete in three YMCA meets prior to the entry deadline (anticipate a February 29 entry deadline). Results submitted to the league become the basis for establishing whether a swimmer met the initial meet and required participation rules.
Rule Reminder for December (12/2/07)
Time Integration within Meet Manager should not mix backup button times and watch times at the same time. Integration of backup button times should occur first. THEN, integration of ALL of the watch times should be used to address any remaining times. Here is a straightforward document (4 pages) with images from Meet Manager. Questions should go to the meet referee. If they are unsure, ask your nearest officials trainer for assistance. This time integration activity is an element of the new Officials Level 2 training.
November Reminders (10/6/07)
Two November reminders. First, coaches certifications are due by December 1. Late fees apply after that date. By January 10, a late fee applies to get a deck pass for Zones. Don't delay!
Second, remember that once Ohio swimmers compete
with their High School, a swim for the Y makes them ineligible for the rest of
the High School season. Further, swimmers need to compete with the Y more
than 40 days prior to Champs to be eligible to swim at Champs. So to be
safe, get a swim in for all of your High School swimmers prior to the first date
of competition -- November 26!
Rule Reminder for October (10/6/07)
There are requirements involved in a dual meet for the meet to credit swimmers as a meet for Champs. The league by-laws list the details. The Dual Meet Resources link has information to help you with a dual meet. Take a look at the Exchange Information link for reminders of pre-work to be done by the coaches.
Rule Reminder for September (9/15/07)
Swimmers are only allowed to participate on YMCA teams or teams in a closed league to remain YMCA eligible. Competing for a non-Y team in open competition makes a swimmer ineligible for YMCA competition for at least 90 days. High School meets are considered closed competition.
Key Reminders for February (2/5/07) (no rule reminder this month!)
Is your Zone Registration and certification of insurance in and recorded (due 2/14 for free processing)?
Are all of your coach certifications turned in for champs (check the web page) and Zones?
Are all of your swimmer records reviewed for duplicates and properly capitalized?
Have your swimmers competed in the three meets to be eligible for Champs?
Did you update your Team Manager with the new event list for Champs?
Are your T-Shirt orders for Champs and Zones complete?
Has your team reviewed the Championship "Roles" Descriptions for champs for your volunteer role and is everyone ready to address the suggested activities? These items are listed to minimize the hand-off problems encountered at previous Champs meets.
With the late due date for entries, lane timer assignments are not going to be available until Sunday. Consider a sign-up for the same count as last Winter Champs (check the link for 2006 League Winter Champs on the left).
Rule Reminder for January (1/1/07)
Meet results are due to the League President and Secretary within a week of the meet. There are late fees for teams tardy in turning in their results. Check the 2006-07 Winter Schedule to see if your results are recorded. The electronic results will allow us to confirm the participation of swimmers in the number of meets to be eligible for Champs. The results also double as your team roster.
Rule Reminder for December (12/3/06)
Remember that the visiting team is to bring one timer per lane to a dual meet (see rule VIII.H.3 in the league by-laws). Should a team be unable to provide adequate timers, notification to the host team must provided 3 days in advance of the meet (Wednesday for a Saturday meet).
Rule Reminder (11/2/06)
Please remember that Coaches certifications are to be updated by December 1 (after December 1 is a late fee). Please forward your updates to Jon and Donel. You can check the status of your certifications for Champs and Zones on the 2006-07 Certified Coaches List link. Please be current, and save yourself late fees from the league and for Zones. FAX to (614) 751-1333. Best time is before 5 PM.
Rule Reminder for October (10/12/06)
Swimmers are only allowed to participate on YMCA teams or teams in a closed league to remain YMCA eligible. Competing for a non-Y team in open competition makes a swimmer ineligible for YMCA competition for the remainder of the season. High School meets are considered closed competition.
Rule Reminder for February (2/2/06)
Remember that swimmers must have three meets in before the league championships to be entered into the champs meet (with one prior to January 24). All of the meets must be closed YMCA meets (no non-Y teams involved). At least one of the meets must be an interassociation dual meet. All swim activity on a single date counts as one meet. Dual meets involve a minimum number of participants from each team to count. Finally, all entrants in Champs must have a swum the event during the current season (NT entries are not allowed).
